*Dehradun, April 30, 2026 (Suvi),* The Dehradun district administration is speeding up the demolition process of dilapidated and dilapidated school buildings in the district. According to the report submitted to the Chief Development Officer/District Magistrate, demolition of 56 of the 64 completely dilapidated school buildings identified in the district has been completed, while work on the remaining buildings is in progress. Following the District Magistrate’s strict and stringent instructions, 64 dilapidated school buildings have been demolished. The remaining eight will be demolished within one month. The Chief Education Officer has submitted his report to the District Magistrate in this regard. Four secondary and 52 elementary school buildings have been demolished in the district. Similarly, of the completely unusable classrooms in the schools, seven of the secondary school’s seven classrooms and 14 of the 10 elementary school classrooms have been demolished. Three unusable classrooms will be demolished within one month. Due to the District Magistrate’s strictness, hundreds of dilapidated school buildings in the district have been demolished en masse for the first time. The District Magistrate’s strictness has led to the identification and demolition of dilapidated buildings, driven by the District Magistrate’s rein in education officers and principals.

23 school buildings were identified in the Chakrata development block of the district, 17 in Kalsi, 8 in Vikasnagar, 2 in Sahaspur, 14 in Raipur, and 17 in Doiwala. Of these, a total of 70 school buildings and classrooms have been demolished. A proposal has been sent to the government to grant an additional month’s time for demolition of the remaining 11 fully or partially dilapidated buildings, for which demolition has not been completed due to various reasons.

 

The District Magistrate directed that student safety is the top priority. A safe environment will be ensured by promptly removing dilapidated buildings. Alternative arrangements will continue to ensure that teaching is not disrupted.

The district administration has prioritized the demolition of all dilapidated school buildings in the district. Ensuring the safety of students and their education is not affected is our paramount responsibility, for which the Chief Education Officer has been directed. Action will be completed on the remaining buildings as well soon.
