Substandard Healthcare System Claims 6 Lives: Human Rights Commission Takes Strict Action on the Deaths of Three Pregnant Women in Bhilangna Block, Issues Notice to CMO Tehri
In Bhilangna block of Ghansali, Tehri, Uttarakhand, substandard healthcare facilities and lack of timely treatment have claimed the lives of 22-year-old Raveena, then 23-year-old Anisha, and now 24-year-old Neetu. These three women did not die alone; when they passed away, a life was also growing inside their wombs. These deplorable healthcare services have claimed not 3, but 6 lives.
Social, human rights, and RTI activist Bhupendra Kumar Lakshmi filed a public interest litigation with the Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission regarding the above matter, stating that “in Bhilangna block of Ghansali, Tehri, due to substandard healthcare facilities and lack of timely treatment, eight-month pregnant Neetu was taken by her family to the Baleshwar Community Health Center due to labor pains, but due to lack of proper treatment, she was referred to a higher center. She died on the way to the hospital.
This is the third death of a pregnant woman in this block within two months. Eight-month pregnant Neetu was taken by her family to the Baleshwar Community Health Center due to labor pains, but she could not be saved. Before this, Anisha Rawat and Raveena Kathait from the area had also died due to lack of treatment for pregnancy-related complications.
