Dehradun: Treatment with new technology has started for MDR TB patients in Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has started treatment of MDR TB with BPLM technology for the first time. Earlier, the patient was given medicines for 18 to 24 months to complete the course of MDR TB treatment. Now with the BPLM technique, TB treatment can be completed in 6 months. Under the Prime Minister’s TB Free India Campaign, the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Central Government is organizing special programs to promote BPLM treatment.

On Wednesday, the program was inaugurated in the MDR ward of the Chest and Respiratory Diseases Department of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital by Medical Superintendent Dr. Ajay Pandita and Head of the Department Dr. Jagdish Rawat by lighting the lamp. The Medical Superintendent officially inaugurated the program by giving the first kit to the TB patient. Under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program, MDR TB patients are being treated with BPLM regimen across the country. It has now started in Uttarakhand.

Dr. Shravani Kanchi, Nodal Officer of DOTS and DRTB Program at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, informed that with the advent of new technology of TB treatment in medical science, TB has become completely curable. The time limit of treatment has decreased. The patient will have to take medicines and treatment for a shorter period of time. The number of doses of medicines given to MDR TB patients will also decrease. This technique is no less than a boon for MDR TB patients. The success rate of treatment of MDR TB patients will also improve with the treatment of BPLM technique. He said that MDR TB patients should regularly consult a specialist doctor so that the patient gets the right treatment and information from time to time. Dr. Abhay Pratap Singh, Dr. Siddhant Kumar, Dr. Vipin Singh, Dr. Chaitanya Sardana, Dr. Ramandeep Kalra, Dr. Manvendra Singh, Dr. Shripa Sharma, Dr. Adhya Kathuria, Dr. Lavish, Dr. Sukriti etc. were present on this occasion.
