Thousands of students in Uttarakhand are yearning for drinking water. There is no provision of drinking water in 611 schools while the budget is more than 10 thousand crores.
Human rights activist, RTI activist and social activist Bhupendra Kumar Laxmi filed a PIL in the Human Rights Commission of Uttarakhand in the larger public interest and requested that ‘Thousands of students of government schools in Uttarakhand are yearning for drinking water in the rainy season. There is no provision of drinking water in 611 schools from primary to secondary. Due to this the students are facing a lot of problems.
That the education department has been making claims of making schools hi-tech, but many government primary, junior high schools and secondary schools do not even have basic facilities for children. This is the situation when the education department has a budget of more than 10 thousand crores every year. Many experiments have often been done in the department in the name of education quality. Despite this, thousands of children of 611 schools are yearning for drinking water in this rainy season.
That according to a report of the education department, there is no arrangement of drinking water in 456 primary schools, 96 junior high schools and 59 secondary schools. According to Director of Primary Education Ramkrishna Uniyal, the problem has arisen due to the drinking water line of some schools being damaged and the drinking water source being below the school. To resolve the problem, the list of all schools has been made available to the Jal Sansthan. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, drinking water lines have been provided to all schools. There are no facilities in the schools built in the forest area. Alternative arrangements have been made in these schools. That there is a drinking water problem in 77 primary schools in Almora district, 7 in Bageshwar, 49 in Champawat, 21 in Dehradun, 3 in Haridwar, 41 in Nainital, 49 in Pauri, 79 in Pithoragarh, 33 in Rudraprayag, 42 in Tehri, 4 in Udham Singh Nagar and 41 primary schools in Uttarkashi district.
The subject of the complaint is very serious and clearly a violation of human rights, so please call for a report in public interest and take immediate action.
While hearing the PIL, Human Rights Commission member (IPS) Ram Singh Meena issued a notice to the Director, Primary Education Uttarakhand and ordered.

Complainant Bhupendra Kumar Laxmi H-255 Nehru Colony Dehradun has sent a complaint letter regarding non-availability of drinking water in 611 government schools from primary to secondary, drinking water lines of some schools being damaged, and immediate action being taken by calling for a report in public interest.
A copy of the complaint letter should be sent to the Director, Primary Education Dehradun, that he will present his report in this regard before the Commission by the next date.
It is to be noted that in case action is not taken as per the above order of the Commission, appropriate orders will be passed by the Commission after consideration.
