*Rishikesh Police Station:*

*To realize the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s “Drugs Free Devbhoomi 2025” mission and to effectively curb drug trafficking, and to take effective action against drug traffickers involved in trafficking, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, has issued strict instructions to all station house officers. He also held a meeting with all gazetted officers and station house officers of the district, instructing them to identify active drug traffickers in their respective areas and take action against them under the PIT NDPS Act (Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988).*

In accordance with the aforementioned instructions, the Rishikesh Kotwali police formed a team to identify drug traffickers within the police station area and take effective action against them. The team gathered information on the criminal history and other important details of Gurucharan Singh, a history-sheeter active in drug trafficking within the police station area. It was revealed that the accused was still actively involved in drug trafficking and was expanding his drug business through his associates. A detailed report was prepared, obtaining all necessary documents from the court, for action against the accused under the PIT NDPS Act. This report was sent to the Secretary, Home, Government of Uttarakhand, through the SSP Dehradun. The Secretary, Home, Government of Uttarakhand, then issued orders for the detention of the accused Gurucharan Singh under the PIT NDPS Act in the district jail.

Accordingly, on December 19, 2024, the Rishikesh police arrested Gurucharan Singh in compliance with the said order and admitted him to the Sudhowala District Jail for detention. Previously, on the instructions of the SSP Dehradun, drug traffickers had also been detained in Sudhowala District Jail under the PIT NDPS Act.

The detained accused was continuously active in drug trafficking, spreading his drug business through his associates. More than four dozen cases under the NDPS Act, Excise Act, and other criminal cases are registered against the accused at Rishikesh Kotwali police station.
