Regional Party Demands Action on Technical University’s Faulty Grading System

The Nationalist Regional Party (RRP) has sent a letter to the Chief Minister demanding immediate action against the flawed grading system at Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU). The party’s National President, Shiv Prasad Semwal, has leveled serious allegations against the state government regarding this issue, stating that the university’s administrative negligence and biased decisions have jeopardized the future of thousands of students.

Dehradun, February 28, 2026: The Nationalist Regional Party today sent a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, demanding that the serious discrepancies in UTU’s grading system be addressed and justice be provided to the affected students. Through this letter, the party’s National President, Shiv Prasad Semwal, has appealed to the state government to implement the grading reform retrospectively for students of the 2022, 2023, and 2024 batches.

Shiv Prasad Semwal issued a statement saying, “Due to a mathematical error in the grading system at Uttarakhand Technical University, the CGPA of the state’s meritorious students is falling 10-15% lower than at other prestigious institutions like IIT Roorkee, NIT Jalandhar, and HBTU Kanpur. A score of 70-79% is awarded only 7 grade points at UTU, while elsewhere it is awarded 8. Because of this, thousands of students at Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Institute of Technology (VMSBTU/GBPIET) Pauri and other UTU-affiliated government engineering colleges are deprived of a “first class.” Students who achieved ranks like AIR 22, 452, and 547 in GATE are being denied PSU jobs, while those who passed the CDS/AFCAT are being denied military jobs and placements.

Is the examination department’s “workload” more important than students’ dreams? When the university is at fault, why should students suffer the consequences?”

Semwal further said, “The Academic Council acknowledged this mistake in December 2025, but the correction was only implemented for new students. Older batches were left out, saying it was too late. This is injustice. Our party stands with the youth of the state and demands that:

The correction in the grading table be immediately implemented retroactively.

The grade sheets of the affected students be revised.

The responsible officials be investigated and action be taken.”

The RRP has warned that if the state government does not take immediate action, the party will prepare for a major movement in collaboration with students. The party is committed to improving the state’s education system and protecting the future of the youth.

This issue concerns the careers of thousands of engineering students in Uttarakhand, and it is hoped that prompt intervention will take place at the Chief Minister’s level.
