Dehradun. The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, successfully organized the national conference on the theme “Bridging the Gap between Industry and Academia: A Sustainable Future of Pharmaceutical Sciences” during the two-day conference, held on November 21 and 22, 2025. The conference aimed to highlight the crucial role academic-industrial collaboration can play in shaping pharmaceutical research, innovation, and developing the future workforce.
In his inspiring address, Chief Guest Professor Durgesh Pant, Director General, UCOST, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Uttarakhand, emphasized the crucial role of interdisciplinary coordination and innovation-based collaboration in strengthening India’s scientific ecosystem. He explained how academic-industry partnerships can accelerate translational research and contribute to regional and national development.
The National Conference was inaugurated on Friday at the auditorium of Shri Guru Ram Rai University by lighting the lamp jointly by Chief Guest Prof. Durgesh Pant, Director General, UCOST, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Uttarakhand, Dr. Prathappan K. Pillai, Vice Chancellor of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, and Dr. Divya Juyal, Convener of the National Conference. Over 500 students from universities and colleges in Uttarakhand and various states across the country participated enthusiastically in the conference. Over 120 oral and poster presentations were presented in line with the conference theme, and the best oral and poster presentation awards were announced in the closing session. The event received financial support from the DST ANRF of the Government of India and was sponsored by several leading pharmaceutical industry partners, including Alkem Laboratories, Intas Pharmaceuticals, Chinar Pharma, AB Consultancy, Shivnitin Agencies, Arito Pharma, and Arin Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.
Chief Guest Professor Milind Janrao Umaker, President, APTI, highlighted the need to modernize pharmacy education and align curriculum with changing industry needs. He stated that such conferences enable students to understand real-world expectations, while the industry benefits from academic research capabilities.
Prof. Deependra Singh, Chairman, Education Regulation Committee, PCI, underlined the importance of regulatory awareness and competency-based training in pharmacy education. He stated that educational institutions must align themselves with global standards and prepare students for innovation-based professional roles.
Chief Guest Professor Rohit Dutt, Vice President, APTI, discussed the need to develop a culture of research, entrepreneurship, and skill enhancement among budding pharmacists. The conference featured four expert-led technical sessions, moderated by eminent academics and industry experts from across the country. The session chairs discussed various topics, including advancements in pharmaceutical technology, the changing regulatory landscape, the need for future talent in the pharmaceutical sector, and innovations in drug development. They emphasized that such platforms create new opportunities for research collaborations, internships, industrial experiences, and entrepreneurial initiatives, providing students and faculty with an understanding of sustainable and industry-oriented pharmaceutical practices.
Principals and directors from several pharmaceutical institutions from various states, including Uttarakhand, participated in the conference and enriched the program with their expertise as members of the advisory board. Prof. Divya Juyal (Dean), Prof. Yogesh Joshi, Prof. G. Gnanarajan, Mr. Ajay Singh Bisht, and all faculty and staff members played a key role in the successful and smooth conduct of the program. Eight distinguished experts from seven different states participated in the conference and provided valuable insights and guidance.
