A Game-Changer Within Just One Year: The District Administration’s Modern Intensive Care Center Rescues Over 325 Children; Over 200 Children Involved in Beggary and Child Labor Integrated into the Educational Mainstream
Dehradun, March 24, 2026 (Dept. of Information): On the occasion of the State Government completing four years in office, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand formally inaugurated and dedicated to the public the District Administration’s ambitious project—the “Modern Intensive Care Center”—located in the Dehradun district. Constructed at a cost of approximately ₹157.60 lakhs within the premises of Sadhuram Inter College on Raja Road, Dehradun, this facility stands as the state’s first modern intensive care center. Its primary objective is to rehabilitate children involved in begging and child labor, thereby integrating them into the educational mainstream.
At the District Administration’s Modern Intensive Care Center, special emphasis is placed on the mental and behavioral reformation (Mind Reform) of the rescued children to ensure their holistic development. This is achieved through various activities such as yoga, music, sports, and other creative pursuits. The District Administration’s Modern Intensive Care Center has emerged as a game-changing institution; to date, the District Administration’s team has successfully rescued over 325 children from the clutches of child beggary and child labor. Furthermore, through the efforts of this modern intensive care center, over 200 children have already been enrolled in schools—a testament to the resounding success of this initiative.
To facilitate the eradication of beggary and child labor, the District Administration has constituted a special inter-departmental task force. This team comprises representatives from the Home Guards, Child Helpline services, the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, the Police Department, and various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). This team is effectively conducting rescue operations through continuous coordination.
To identify and swiftly rescue children engaged in begging within the city, three specialized rescue vehicles have been deployed; these vehicles conduct regular patrols, thereby accelerating the pace of the campaign. Furthermore, 16 Home Guard personnel have been stationed at major intersections and sensitive locations to ensure that children can be immediately transported to a safe shelter.
Upon assuming charge of the district, the District Magistrate prioritized this project, laying its foundation with promptness; subsequently, the Honorable Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a modern Intensive Care Center in December 2024. The district administration has since commenced the operations of this center. Currently, the facility functions within a well-equipped building featuring modern resources, providing education and rehabilitation services in a safe environment to children rescued from child labor and begging. This innovative initiative by the district administration serves not only as a significant stride toward the eradication of begging and child labor but is also proving to be a milestone in guiding children from the underprivileged sections of society toward a new direction and a brighter future.
