The district administration continues its action against drugs; 150 students at Graphic Era Deemed University undergo random testing.
With the launch of a comprehensive drug testing campaign for children in higher education institutions, random sampling of students studying at three major institutions in the district has been completed so far.
Students and parents should not be alarmed by the drug testing drive; its sole purpose is to protect students and adolescents from the ill effects of drug abuse: DM.
The district administration has taken significant and stringent steps in line with the Chief Minister’s vision of a drug-free state.
DM Savin Bansal warns: If a student tests positive, the Dean and Swami of the concerned institution will also face legal action; a case will be filed.
Dehradun, December 2, 2025 (S.V.), District Magistrate Savin Bansal has taken a tough stand against the illegal drug trade and the increasing drug addiction among students, directing all educational institutions in the district to conduct roster-based testing campaigns. In compliance with the District Magistrate’s instructions, random sampling of 150 students of Graphic Era Deemed University was conducted for the second consecutive day today under the leadership of Sub-District Magistrate Sadar Harigiri. The District Magistrate has issued strict instructions that if any student or child tests positive in drug testing at any school or college, criminal action will be taken against the Dean and college owner concerned.
To realize the Chief Minister’s vision of a drug-free state, the District Administration has taken significant and stringent steps to protect students and adolescents from the ill effects of drug abuse.
The District Magistrate urged students and parents not to be afraid of drug testing and urged their cooperation with the District Administration in this drive. He stated that the objective of this drive is to protect school and college students from the ill effects of drug abuse and to create a drug-free society.
He directed all private and government educational institutions in the district to activate the anti-drug committee by including one male and one female student in the committee. He directed that the Manas helpline number 1933, the NCV Manas portal, and the District De-Addiction Center helpline number 9625777399 be widely publicized through banners/posters in educational institutions and public places to report illegal drug trafficking. He directed that immediate action be taken on complaints received through the helplines. The district administration is operating a 30-bed de-addiction and mental health center at the Old Age Home in Raiwala. The district administration has signed an MoU with AIIMS and has reserved 10 beds for intensive therapy at AIIMS seven days a week. To address the drug crisis, the district administration has also established its own anti-drug helpline number, 9625777399.
