A mountain of garbage has been created due to the negligence of the Municipal Corporation on the side of Haridwar Road National Highway in Kargi area of Dehradun. There are highly populated areas around this place. The situation is very bad due to the foul smell and there is a danger of diseases spreading due to this garbage and diseases may be spreading too, there is clearly a danger of loss of life and property of the common people.
This correspondent filed a PIL in the Human Rights Commission of Uttarakhand in the above case and requested that “Another mountain of garbage has been created in Kargi, Dehradun. While converting the garbage transfer station into a mechanized garbage transfer station, thousands of tons of garbage accumulated there within no time, but the Municipal Corporation officials remained sitting idle”. “Due to the accumulation of garbage, there is a lot of foul smell here. Being on the side of the national highway, thousands of people travel from here. There are very populated areas around this place, the situation is very dire due to the smell and there is a danger of spreading diseases due to this garbage, due to this people living in about one and a half km area including Brahmanwala, Kargi are troubled by the smell arising from the garbage heap”.
“The responsibility of sending all the garbage from Kargi to Sheeshambada has been given to a company. Since then this situation has worsened and garbage has accumulated on the side of the highway.
“CAG had released its report on 31 March 2022. CAG had clearly stated that garbage transfer stations have been set up in residential areas, national highways and on the river banks. As per the rules, this is wrong. Municipal Corporation officials did not pay attention to this report. Instead of improving the system, it has been made worse”.
The subject of the complaint is very serious and is clearly related to the loss of life and property of the common man, therefore, please direct for action in public interest, interest of justice and take strict action by calling for a report.
The Commission, while acting on the PIL, issued a notice to the Chief Municipal Officer and ordered him to submit a report.
