*Chief Minister inaugurates the 25th All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship*
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami virtually inaugurated the 25th All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship held at the Water Sports and Adventure Institute, Tehri Garhwal on Wednesday. On this occasion, he welcomed and felicitated police personnel, officers, and sports enthusiasts from various states and union territories to the land of gods, Uttarakhand. He said that it is a matter of great pride for Uttarakhand that the state has been given the opportunity to host this important national event for the first time.
Expressing gratitude to the All India Police Sports Control Board, the Chief Minister said that such events not only provide a platform for athletes to showcase their talent but also play an important role in establishing a new identity for the state in the field of adventure sports and tourism. He said that more than 440 male and female athletes from 19 teams across the country are participating in this competition, showcasing their abilities in various canoeing, rowing, and kayaking events.
The Chief Minister, while congratulating the participants, said that police and paramilitary personnel play a vital role in maintaining national security, law and order, and public confidence. Therefore, it is crucial for them to remain physically and mentally fit. He emphasized that sports not only enhance fitness but also develop discipline, team spirit, and the ability to work in difficult situations.
The Chief Minister noted that water sports are extremely useful in disaster management, flood relief, river rescue, and coastal security. Proficiency in these sports often proves life-saving and plays a crucial role in saving lives in emergencies.
The Chief Minister noted that campaigns like Khelo India and the Fit India Movement, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have strengthened the sports culture in the country and instilled a renewed enthusiasm for sports among the youth. The state government is also continuously striving to promote sports and provide better facilities to athletes. He said that Uttarakhand recently demonstrated its potential by successfully hosting the 38th National Games, and the state is emerging as both a land of gods and a sports land. Modern sports infrastructure is rapidly developing in the state, and efforts are also being made to organize international level competitions in the future.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to the overall development of Uttarakhand. He expressed confidence that such events will prove helpful in the development of the state, promotion of tourism, and promotion of sports talent.
On this occasion, MLA Kishore Upadhyay, District Panchayat President Tehri Ishita Sajwan, President Municipal Corporation Tehri Garhwal Mohan Singh Rawat, Special Principal Secretary Sports Amit Sinha, ADG ITBP Sanjay Gunjyal, IG Northern Frontier ITBP Manu Maharaj, IG CRPF Dinesh Uniyal, IG ITBP Academy Girish Chandra Upadhyay, District Magistrate Tehri Nitika Khandelwal, and SSP Shweta Choubey were present.
