Cadaveric Oath Ceremony Held at SGRRIM&HS, Dehradun
Dehradun: December 10, 2025: The Department of Anatomy at Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (SGRRIM&HS), Dehradun, organized a Cadaveric Oath Ceremony for the newly admitted students of the MBBS 2025 batch. The purpose of this program was to make students aware of the importance of body donation and to inculcate respect for the cadaver as the first teacher in medical education.
The program began with the lighting of the lamp jointly by Chief Guest Dr. Sanjay Agarwal, Madam Jasveer Kaur, Inderjeet Singh, and Mr. Rajkishore Jain.
Prof. Harmeet Kaur, Head of the Department of Anatomy, formally inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp.
This was followed by Saraswati Vandana and the cadaveric oath for the MBBS students.
Chief guest Dr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, General Secretary of the All India Agarwal Society, said in his address, “I am pleased that people are regularly coming forward to donate their bodies to medical colleges.”
Inderjit Singh, General Secretary of the Gursikh Education Trust, shared that he and his twenty-year-old daughter have already filled out body donation forms and expressed their desire to serve medical education. Madam Jasveer Kaur, a key pillar of the Gursikh Education Society and the Trust’s project coordinator, also graced the event with her presence.
Rajkishore Jain, President of Jain Milan, blessed the students.
In her address, Dr. Harmeet Kaur emphasized the importance of cadaveric education. She said that the cadaver is the first teacher for medical students.
He explained that the Cadaveric Oath is a sacred pledge in which students express gratitude to the donor before dissecting a human body. They accept the cadaver as their first teacher and pledge to use the knowledge gained in an ethical manner in the service of humanity.
He stated that bodies donated to the medical college by the community represent sacred and noble souls. Dr. Harmeet proudly informed that just four days ago, SGRRIMM&HS faculty member Dr. Manoj K. Gupta donated his father’s sacred body to the college. He appealed to all present to spread awareness about body donation in the community.
Dr. Nidhi Jain, Dr. Shashi Munjal, Dr. S. Ali, Dr. Vandana Tiwari, Dr. Anisha Nautiyal, Dr. Chanchal Sharma, Dr. Priya Adhyaya, and Dr. Nikita Pokhiya was present with dignity.
