Chief Secretary held a meeting regarding law and order in the Secretariat

*With the opening of the Delhi-Dehradun Highway, there is a need to be even more prepared for the weekend.*

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a meeting with senior officials of the Home and Police departments at the Secretariat on Tuesday regarding law and order in the city. Expressing displeasure over the increasing incidents of road rage and rioting, the Chief Secretary directed increased surveillance to prevent such incidents and strict action against rioters.

The Chief Secretary said that police patrols should be increased in Dehradun city and its surrounding areas. He said that the Dehradun SSP has instructed all his station heads to increase patrols during peak hours. He also directed that morning patrols, along with day and night patrols, should also be increased.

 

The Chief Secretary directed that the closing times for bars and restaurants be strictly enforced. He said that Dehradun should not become a haven for parties and hooliganism on weekends. He said that strict action should be taken against hooligans, and bar operators should also be made aware of this and enforced to close bars on time.

 

The Chief Secretary also directed strict action against bars that do not follow bar operation rules and against illegal bar operators. He also said that action should be taken against negligent officers who do not perform their duties diligently. He also said that homestays operating in areas surrounding the city also need to be monitored. To this end, homestays should be mapped and monitored to ensure that these homestays, established for tourism promotion, are not continuously abusing bar licenses.

 

The Chief Secretary said that after the Delhi-Dehradun highway opens, there is a need to be even more prepared for the weekend. He said that preparations for this need to be made now. He also called for a thorough verification campaign of tenants and PG residents to be conducted to identify rioters.

DGP Deepam Seth, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Dehradun SSP Pramod Singh Doval, and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
