*Pithoragarh Medical College construction in decisive phase*

Following Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directives, the expansion of medical education in Uttarakhand has gained unprecedented momentum. The state government is rapidly moving towards the goal of establishing a medical college in every district, and border town Pithoragarh has become a key hub in this campaign. Despite difficult geography and limited resources, the construction of the state medical college is progressing rapidly, and the project has now entered its decisive phase.

The medical college campus is now almost complete. Spacious buildings, well-organized blocks, and modern infrastructure are all proving to be major steps towards making Pithoragarh a major medical center in the hills. The local population is very excited about this project. People believe that with the opening of the medical college, the compulsion to travel to Haldwani, Dehradun, or other states for treatment of serious illnesses will end. New employment, business, and transportation opportunities will also emerge in the district. The government has set a target of completing the medical college by March 31, 2026. If the pace of construction continues, this goal appears to be on track.

The latest progress report from the Drinking Water Corporation indicates that most of the major blocks of Pithoragarh Medical College are 70 to 95 percent complete. This is not only a testament to the department’s efficiency, but also a promising future for healthcare facilities in the border district.

According to the report, the faculty block, laboratory block, and examination-lecture theatre block are 65 to 80 percent complete. The administrative block is also 45 percent complete. Experts believe that the near-completion of these buildings will pave the way for faculty appointments, the establishment of departments, and the commencement of the academic session in the coming days.

Construction work on the hostel buildings has been the fastest. The boys’ hostel has reached 90 percent completion, and the girls’ hostel 80 percent completion. The girls’ dining block is at 78 percent completion, and the boys’ dining block is at 35 percent completion. Meanwhile, Type-6 and Type-4 residential blocks are 85 to 96 percent complete. This entire structure will play a crucial role in streamlining the medical college’s operations, providing better living facilities for doctors, nurses, faculty, and students.

Progress is also notable on the hospital campus. The emergency block remodeling is 90 percent complete, and IPD-1 is 75 percent complete. Work is ongoing on OPD-2 (35%), the Junior Resident Hostel (20%), and the Intern Hostel (25–65%). Some new blocks, such as IPD-2, IPD-3, the Nurses’ Hostel, the BMW Block, and the Mortuary, are still in the initial stages, but the department claims that their construction will soon accelerate.

*Statement by Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar*

Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said, “Pithoragarh Medical College is among Chief Minister Dhami’s priority projects. It is our commitment to provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities in the border district. Rapid progress has been made in most key blocks, and the relevant agencies have been directed to complete the remaining work in a timely manner. Our goal is not just to build a medical college, but to make it a ‘model medical institute’ for the state. In the coming years, it will develop into a strong center for medical education and healthcare.”
