SGRRU’s Khelotsav 2025 kicks off in a grand manner

Dehradun: The annual sports festival, “Khelotsav-2025,” kicked off with great fanfare at Shri Guru Ram Rai University (SGRRU) on Monday. The melodious tunes of drums, trumpets, bands, and the energy of youth filled the campus with excitement. The university’s NCC band, NSS volunteers, and students from 11 constituent schools graced the inaugural session with a disciplined parade. Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, Honorable President of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the players, organizing committee, faculty members, and students for a successful event and said, “Sports is a temple of discipline, where both victory and defeat come as teachers.”
On Monday, at the Shri Guru Ram Rai University sports ground, Prof. Prathapan K. Pillai, Vice Chancellor-in-Charge and Advisor, Honorary President of SGRRU, formally inaugurated the Khelotsav 2025. Khelotsav 2025 Chairperson Dr. Puneet Ohri, Secretary S.P. Joshi, and student Anjali Yadav lit the sports torch, marking the formal start of the competitions. Approximately 5,000 students will showcase their skills, courage, and sportsmanship in 15 different sports competitions during this Khelotsav 2025, which will run from October 13th to 18th. As the athletes marched on the field, the entire university resonated with the slogan “Khel Hi Jeevan Hai.” The stage was hosted by Yanisha Rawat and Kartik.
The torch relay was led by national-level dropball player Anjali Yadav, with Dhruv, Purnima, Pooja Rawat, Naveen Dandariyaal, and Prachi Jamloki carrying the torch. The torch relay spread a wave of “enthusiasm, passion, and enthusiasm” throughout the campus.
Prof. Prathapan K. Pillai, Vice Chancellor-in-Charge and Advisor to the Honorable President, introduced and encouraged the players. In his powerful address, he said, “Today’s occasion is not just a sports competition, but a celebration of youthful energy, discipline, and unity. Sports teach us not only to win, but to smile even in defeat and to thrive in every situation. The true winner is the one who improves themselves every day.” He announced that the “SGRRU President’s Cricket Trophy” will be held in January 2026 for the university’s faculty and students, and the winning teams will be honored on February 10, 2026.
At the inaugural ceremony, university students presented a captivating dance performance to Garhwali folk music, which enthralled the audience. Yoga asanas performed by students from the School of Yogic Science and Naturopathy conveyed a beautiful message of “balance between mind and body.”
Under Officer Akriti Rawat (11 UK Battalion) and Under Officer Anshuman Ghildiyal (11 UK Battalion) led the cadets in saluting the chief guest.
Anjali Yadav administered the Sports Spirit Pledge to all participants: “We will play to our full potential with sportsmanship, honesty, and discipline.”
University Registrar Dr. Lokesh Gambhir, Dean Students’ Welfare Dr. Malvika Kandpal, Dr. Ashish Kulshrestha, Dr. Shreya Kotanala, Dr. Ashok Bhandari, Dr. Anuja Rohilla, Dr. Manish Dev Sharma, Dr. Khilendra Singh, heads of all departments, faculty members, and thousands of students were present at this grand event.
